Canada in Sound and Colour

Inlet Theatre, Port Moody

The year 2017 marks a milestone in Canadian history: our 150th birthday. For all of us proud Canadians we would like to proudly say what and who we are here at home and abroad. The Yarilo Music Ensemble is invited to present our artistic ideas about Canada’s 150th anniversary at an international music festival in Europe (June 2017).

Canada in Sound and Colour is intended to be a rich and complex project destined to create a comprehensive picture of Canadian culture today. It will involve three different artistic components: visual, historical and musical. Our program is made up exclusively of Canadian compositions by composers from across the country. They have been selected to highlight a diversity in musical styles today. It features many aspects of our great land: our nature, our urban landscape, and our multi-culturalism all expressed in carefully selected repertory for two pianos (see the program below).

The project is much more than just the music. A selection of imagery will accompany the performance: the elements, our urban landscape, our peoples. The musical styles range from the traditional (Baker, Cardy, Matton), to Minimalism (MacDonald, Southam), to multicultural aspects (Louie), to the sophisticated and abstract (Burke). The images will consist of a cross-section of pictures that embraces many aspects of our diversity.
